I spent a day last week at the British Library in London, buried in research for the next two Omus Jones books.
Most of the morning went on whisky. Specifically, how it is actually made and how the Scottish distilleries came to be what they are today. There is a lot more to it than I expected. The licensing, the smuggling years, the way whole families and villages ended up tied to a single distillery for generations. I came away with far more notes than I will ever use, which is usually a good sign.
The afternoon was given over to peerages. How they are created, how they pass down, and what happens to a title when there is nobody left to inherit it. The rules are more intricate than you would think, and the edge cases are where the interesting stories live.
Both subjects feed directly into books 3 and 4 in the series. I am not going to say much more than that at this stage, but if you have read the first two you can probably guess the general direction.
